I still have my M645... my last duty weapon... but I spotted a recent arrival at the dealer... M645 SN TAT66xx. One scratch from slide lock/takedown clumsy. 2 mags/papers, no box. An extra used mag (probably from the same source) in the case... grabbed it too.
I got $50 off the price... I already did my waiting period for this month, instant check & home it came. $550 plus $20 for the third mag.
I couldn't leave her there like an unloved orphan...

Sounds like the orphan found a great new home where it will be loved. Great find on a sweet 45. Best of luck and be sure to post some pics.

Ah yes, my first .45 auto. There's a couple of trades here in town right now, also. I remember when our local gunsmith took a file to the backstrap to clean-up the checkering, LOL. He had no clue it was plastic!

I have seen here, more than once, people referring to the 645 backstrap as being plastic. I have a 645 I bought as a bag of rusted pieces and another bag of spare parts. In these said bags is a total of maybe 2-3 645 backstraps. Not the first one is plastic. Everyone is a lightweight aluminum. The one that's on my 645 now has had a file and wire brush applied to it and its still in one piece. Is there a group of mysterious plastic 645 backstraps floating around out there i'm not aware of?? If there is i'd be interested in getting a couple. Here's a few pics of my beloved 645.

The back straps do look like plastic. I removed mine, filed it nicely, it had some factory pits, then glass beaded. It's definitely not plastic but had some odd colored anodizing or something of the sort. Once glass beaded, it has a nice white aluminum color.

That appears to be a fully polished 645.

I guess you could never have enough 645's, I'd welcome another too!

The 645 is one of my all time favorites, eats everything you feed it, and then spits it out.

I typically only like factory grips, but I like these Hogue grips on this one, and it keeps the factory grips mint.

No plastic back strap here either.
