645 or 4566

I may have a second chance at a 645 I seen at the gun show this past weekend. It came with a box and unsure if it had papers. The guy wanted 550 but I'm sure could get him to at least 500. Another guy has a 4566 and I'm in the process of selling him 2 4506 mags this up coming saturday for his other 3rd gen. Which would be a better buy? I would assume the 645 since it has the/a box, but the 4566 depending if the guy is well versed in his 3rd gen smiths may part with it for under 400 and it could be the tsw version. I could only do one or the other as the boss(wife) isn't too phased at me buying my yearly gun this early in the season.

Tough choice........

As someone who has carried both those models for serious purpose and qualified with same, I would be inclined to buy the 645 if I was not looking for a carry gun. The 645 makes a fine duty pistol, don't get me wrong, but it also makes a VERY fine range/competition pistol.

The 4566 being just a little smaller, and just a bit lighter, makes a slightly better carry gun.

But the 645 was made in smaller numbers than the 4566 and the very nice examples are getting harder to find. $400 for a 4566TSW is a hell of a deal.

Buy the 4566. I have a TSW version and it actually. Rivals some of my 1911's for accuracy. Better than even the 745 I had.

From what I can remember in the pic the guy had they all were stainless which I think ups my chances of the 4566 being a tsw. I have a 4506-1 and would love to add another 45 to the lone one I have. If the guy isn't too keen on 3rd gen culture may be able to get for for that steal.

If the 4566 is a TSW and you want a TSW, I'd go that route. However, if you don't care for the add on rail as I dont, or if it's just a plain vanilla 4566, I'd grab the 645. As 18DAI posted, good ones for a good price are getting harder to find.

Keep in mind if you get the 4566, those 4506 mags you're selling will fit it too.

Damn tough choice with a lot (perhaps the whole ballgame) depending on condition, final prices and TSW vs. non-TSW in the 4566. And maybe also depending on what you already own or want/need in your collection?

The best answer is probably to buy both... but if that is 100% off the table, I'd personally be inclined to go for the 645 if it is in really, REALLY good shape. I passed on a 645 a while back because it was "used and abused" well beyond my acceptability threshold... but damn, that was an awfully nice pistol!

Ihave both.

I would definitely get the 4566. It balances better and shoots just as well. There is nothing wrong with a 645. But I like my 4566 better.

I agree with 18DAI, if it's a nice 645 I'd jump on it. Like he said nice ones are getting hard to find. Love shooting both but the 645 gets to the range more often with me......just a great shooting .45!

If i'm taking multiple pistols to the range the 645 is always in my bag. I enjoy shooting the 645 with the heavy frame.

Well the 645 sold on sunday, so kinda kicking myself for waiting. I had 20 mags for my 4506, and realized i would never need all 20 so decided to cut down to 10. I did trade one for a 5906 15 rounder, and got the others on GB right now for I think 29 a piece with 6 shipping. I'm hoping this guy decides to sell so i can ask him more info without trying to sound like I know quite a bit about 3 rd gen's or have a Standard catalog by my side.

I talked to the guy after he bought 2 of my mags and he said he was looking sell for 500. I seen pics and it doesn't have the rail, so I bought a used CZ 85B off GB instead.
