I couldn't resist a poor neglected (and cheap) 645 at the last Puyallup gun show and had to bring it home with me for a little TLC (along with a Tavor, but that is for another forum). It was a little beat up on the outside with some "custom" wood grips that looked like they were made in junior high wood shop.

I had some spare grips and had a hankering to test my bead blast formulation from this this thread (http://smith-wessonforum.com/smith-...7421-glass-bead-media-testing-5906-frame.html), so I brought it home for some refinishing.

I was so eager to get to work I forgot to take before pictures of the complete pistol, but I did get some before pictures of the components. I did refinishing of the flats with 00 grey scotch brite pads, and I bead blasted the rest of the pistol with a 10:1 ratio of #13 glass beads and 220 white aluminum oxide at 60psi. To show the difference between the original finish, and the newly blasted finish I added some of my kid's star stickers to areas that would be subsequently hidden after reassembly.

Without further ado here are the before and after pictures, there is more contrast between the stars and the new finish than I expected, but this is a second gen, not a third gen, there may have been some formulation tweaks between the generations. Also taking detailed pictures of stainless steel is not easy.

Beautiful! I know people generally don't like the 2nd gen adj rear sights, but I like them. I have one on my 2 tone 439.
