65-3, 3"

I finally picked up my new purchase from my F.F.L. last night. A 65-3, that I bid on from GB. I was surprised that I won it, as I did not have to go real high.($341, bought it) The condition appears much better than the pics show! Has Goodyears though, which are going to go.

Can anybody give me an approx. age? Whole serial # 5X255. Is a number that short common? It will be going to the range in a few hours for the real test.
I have tried to post pics before with no luck. That is what happens when you are older, and your computer is old too. I would much rather spend money on guns than computers! Thanks, Bob

Congrats! A fixed sight , 3in stainless K-frame .357 is about the perfect self defense wheelgun. Wouldn't mind finding one myself.

I'm having trouble finding it in the book. I found the 65-3 was made from '82 to '87.

Good deal Bob! That is about $100 less than I paid for mine several months ago - but I did get a set of magnas and a Tyler- T adapter; so don't have to be in a hurry to replace grips.

I can't help you with the age of your new gun, but others on here will nail it.

I can emphatize with your feelings on posting pictures and the lack of enthusiasm for spending time around the computer as opposed to spending time on the things you enjoy. For years my surf fishing club has been after me to post pictures of the fish I catch. I'd rather be slinging lead at the beach or shooting lead at the range than fooling with cameras, docks, cords, computers, picture loading and sizing programs and the like. But, I'm real glad that others on here get satisfaction out of posting up pictures of their prize revolvers, because I sure enjoy looking at them. Maybe one of my granddaughters will be able to teach this old dog a new trick.

I hope you get as much enjoyment out of your 3" Model 65 as I do mine.

That serial number doesn't look right. That might be an assembly number. I am looking for a 3" 65 or 13, but can't find either at a good price in reasonable condition.

I was looking real hard back in Feb. of this year, and could not come up with anything good and reasonable. I ended up buying a 67 no dash, which I really like. ( not a .357 though) Then a few months ago I bought an Aussie Police 10-8 from Bud's. ( not a .357) Found the one I bought on G.B. as stated above. The last .357 I purchased was 1976, a Ruger Security 6, Bi-Centennial Model. Sold it a few years later for $30 more than I paid for it new.
Can anyone out there zero in somewhat on the date of birth or ship of my 65? I would greatly appreciate it. 5X255 is on the bill of sale, and on the gun twice. O.K., I'm bad and should know better. The real serial# is7D875xx, which might make things easier!!! Thanks, Bob

Have you checked the bottom of the grip frame? I have a 65-3 and that's where the serial number is. It should be 3 letters and 4 numbers. Mine is ACNXXXX and was dated to 1983.

That's about what I paid for mine this summer. I saw the gun, saw the price tag, and told him "SOLD!"
I love it, and it's my usual carry gun.

Your gun came out tof the factory in 1981.

Thanks, Dick, my 10-8, and 65-3 both from the same year. My wife and I went to the range yesterday and shot the 65 for the 1st time. I really like it. The problem is that she likes it better than the others that were taken for her to shoot. She liked it better than her favorite .22! Tried to put her on to the 10-8. Shot .38 reloads, 3gr. Clays, 158 gr. LSWC that I reload. Thanks again, Bob
