The Blue Book shows the ladysmith valued at $475 in 100% condition. I checked Gunbroker completed auctions and the least expensive completed sale was $800. I looked at a very nice ladysmith the other day priced at $700, no box or jewelry case and a set of rubbers on it but did include the factory grips. I'm thinking maybe I need to go back with some cash and take another look. It's not that I need another 357, but it does seem under valued. No shipping and no transfer fee. Opinions?

There was a post earlier today about one at $799, and the consensus was this is a fair price in the current market. This is called a hint :).

The Blue Book is a fine reference, but there is so much individual supply and demand in the items listed that the prices are obsolete when it hits the bookshelves.

They can still be had in the $500 range but it helps to buy from someone who uses the Blue Book to price their guns. Last one I bought was a -5 last month for $500 OTD from a pawn shop where I know they use the Blue Book for pricing. They also have a post '64 Winchester 100 in 308 for $899 and have had it for six months now which I expect was also priced via the Blue Book. Bought another 65-5 just about a year ago for $540 OTD from another shop where the owner is a great guy but prices two ways; Blue Book and cost, has no idea about current market prices. Most any three inch (and some 2.5) k frame S&W is priced at $800+ at gun shows and LGSs. Saw several 66s and 65s in that range at today's gun show. Keep searching. . . .

I paid $1K for one in mint condition with the box, and everything from a member on the forums...shipping and ins was included, then found one local for I think $700.

Traded the one bought here to another forum member for a flawless pre dash 696.

I thought I saw one here in the classifieds a few months ago for $650.

I'll never part with the one I bought local.

Well it is overpriced for me.

With a pro-gun President we don't have to worry a any Federal anti-gun laws being passed.

However, with more people buying guns for self-defense and concealed carry and restrictions in States like California on semi-auto pistols folks are (re)discovering the advantages of a simple,no frill revolver.

I picked up a nice 65-5 Ladysmith last year for $425. Wasn't looking for one, but I couldn't pass up such a good deal. I originally planned to flip it, but it's such a nice gun I decided to keep it. I like to describe the 65-5LS as effectively being a fixed sight 3" Model 66.

Sorry for raising up a zombie thread...........
But was looking at these on Gunbroker today, and was shocked.
Bought the wife a new one in March 1996. Rose wood grips, LS soft case / rug, etc.
$282 / $320 out the door. It has an amazing single action trigger.
Maybe has 500 rounds through it. She never really got into shooting. Still like new.
While I am not sure what these are actually selling for, starting bids today go from $800 to $1300.
Also wanted to ask, whats the difference between the 65-5 LS, and the later 65-6 LS?
The 65-6 bid starts at $1300.00
She will never sell it. Its "Her gun"........ Just surprised at the prices.
I guess its comparable to a PC gun today?

In the last 23 years or so concealed carry has progressed from the occasional oddball state (VT, FL) to nearly all states in which you would care to live. ;) So the popularity of shorter barrel CCW compatible guns has increased tremendously, along with their prices.

I believe the difference between the 65-5 and the -6 is the latter has MIM parts and the integral frame lug.

Photos of her one and only revolver.
Will go to my daughter down the road.
Rose wood looks nice, but we picked up Uncle Mikes round butt when purchased.
Tried the Rose wood recently. But put these immediately back on. lol

I was surprised to see this come back up! I had went into a friends gun shop and asked if he had a 3" J frame, he said no, but I have this 3" K frame. After consulting with the enablers on this forum and 700$ cash, this is what I came up with.

Fine revolvers!

I got mine for $750 some years back. Came with a holster, ammo, speed loader, Ahern grip, possibly some other things as well. Paid too much at the time, but the pricing has caught up and I ended up just buying it early.

Oh yes, it had Mag-Na-Port professional action job and removal of the "Ladysmith" and refinish to match the overall finish.

They really are some of the finest carry revolvers S&W ever made. Wouldn't trade mine for anything. The current pricing seems in line with K frame .357 values, generally. I would think anything under $1k pretty fair. $500 would be a steal deal.
