Found a NIB w/paperwork 657 Classic Hunter that will be in an estate sale tomorrow. Checks out perfect as 1/2000 made in 1991. Anybody here have one and what value would you guys put on it? Not a safe queen kind of guy but since it is a survivor I may try to grab it for future speculation.

I have two of them, one built on each frame

Manufacturing of Product Code 103820 ran through the time when Smith and Wesson changed to all round butts.

So the early examples (1991) of Product Code 103820 were built on a Square Butt Frame and manufacturing of the 2000 piece order completed (1995) with the last of Product Code 103820s being built on Round Butt Frames

There are no records indicating how many of each variation were produced

If your only purpose in buying it is to make money, I would not pay over $800 for it.

Maybe, but at that price I'd assume a long time coming before it appreciated enough to consider it an investment. JMHO.

True, it would be a long term investment. :)

I just had to look up when and how much I paid for mine new. July 1993 for $444

KO

Well, I did get it and will post a few pics tomorrow but it is a NIB square butt 103820 and dates April 4, 1991. Not a steal but I will keep it new as I have a Classic 629 that I do shoot.
