659 magazines

Well, since your pistol went out of production around 1988-89 or there abouts, getting NEW S&W factory magazines specifically original as designed for the 659 might be difficult.

However, the 659 will happily use all the magazines made for the pistol series that succeeded it, that being the Model 5906 and all it's variants.

These can be found in many places and Mec-Gar makes a perfectly great aftermarket magazine also.

Point your search to 5906.

Got It!!!-Thank you for the quick reply. BTW-my 659 is a 2nd. gen-I love it. I have 2 factory mags but want 1 more, I will check the source you named for the 5906 mags.

S&W made just a ridiculous load of these magazines, they might contend for the single most made pistol magazine in S&W history. There are sooooo many out there that if money is any issue, please don't overpay to get a few. These are easy to find.

The Mec-Gar is a perfectly great magazine, it just looks a little different.

Good luck! I have a 659 also, it's a big 'ole brick of an old school pistol. Yes indeed, it is a 2nd Gen. It's the all-steel evolution of the original Model 59. The 459 is alloy frame, the 659 is all steel.

Hint: fantastic aftermarket grip for a 659 is the now out of production Uncle Mike's grips. These will fit the 59, 459, 559, 659. They are fairly thin but grip well, far better than the original hard plastic grips on the 659.

You might find some original 659 magazines on eBay or Gunbroker, expect to pay through the nose. Alternatively, factory 5906 and Mec-Gar 5906 magazines will work just fine. S&W 5906 magazines hold 15 rounds and Mec-Gar makes 15 and 17 round magazines that are not extended length style mags. I would avoid ProMag, some people have good luck with them, a lot of people use them for practicing their skills at clearing feed jams.

As others have said, Fleabay and Gunjoker are going to be your best bet. Unless you want to buy cheapo Triple K or Promag.

I use Mec Gar mags in mine. Mec Gar is the magazine OEM for several firearms manufacturers and they make a quality product. They even offer a 17 round flush fit mag which gives you +3 over the original 14 round magazines.

Go to Greg Cote for magazines. Mec Gar's are great mags.

I have ordered from Greg a number of times. If he is out of stock, you can sign up for an e-mail notice when he restocks. His shipping is very reasonable. I just get the 17 rounders.
