659 trade

A friend, USMC vet from the late 70's, who carried a Victory on duty would like me to part with one of mine. He offered me a lightly use 659 in the box as a trade. Being he is a friend I don't want to cheat him or myself. Would this be a fair even up trade or should one of us throw in some boot? The Victory is a lettered DSC with a 5 digit s/n shipped in late 1942.

I don’t know the market for Victory models, but a lightly used 659 with it’s original box and papers and tool kit and extra mag is probably top of the market around $550-$650 depending on your locale.

Thanks for the inputs. We did the deal and here is what I got. No extra mag or paperwork, just the box, unopened tool set and a lightly used pistol.

Mine also looks like yours . I thing I've learned to appreciate as I get older is the adjustable sights . Start shooting and adjust them and you'll be surprised how well it shoots .

I've had a couple of 659s and regret letting go of them. Great guns. I'd be open to another one if it came along.

Took it to the range yesterday, and accuracy was acceptable by my standards. It's a bit too heavy and bulky for CC and too nice to be a truck gun. Being a revolver guy I may use it as trading stock at the next gun show.

The only downside to the steel and stainless steel receivers is weight. The extra weight makes them great range pistols and the receiver is likely to last forever, but they are heavy.

If both of you are satisfied, it was a good trade. It sounds like you made it possible for a friend to get something he really wanted, and that’s a GOOD THING, and if you really aren’t all that taken with the 659, it should be very easy to trade or sell. I personally favor a single stack for a stainless gun because of the weight, but as somebody already said, “...the receiver is likely to last forever...“ since they are so stout. You pay for durability with weight!
