A local shop just took in a 2.5" 66-1, pinned and bored, in perfect condition. I'd call it LNIB. The box appears to be original and genuine, with papers. But the tools are clearly not original, appear to be for a longer barreled gun. Anyway, they are asking $695. I'm thinking that's not an outrageous price, but not really a bargain either. Tempted. Any opinions would be appreciated. I'd want this one as a shooter/carry gun, not a safe-queen.

$700 seems a bit high for what you've described. You should be able to buy one under $600 today, just a few years ago I would have said don't pay more than $450 but times have changed.

Last year I picked up a couple 19-2 2.5" guns similarly described for $500 & $550.

Good luck in your search.

not to high, but a little high for me. i got a 66 no dash 95% or better for 575 last year. box, no tools etc. i know FL gun prices are pretty good, but MO should be better, right? buy it. haggle. if you don't get i'll call them and see if i can get a transfer!

This like-new 66-4 didn't come with a box, papers, tools or original grips but for $416, I didn't complain. With a set of Ahrends combats on it, it looks a lot better.

I agree with others who has stated that $700 is high. However, at the last gun show in my area two sold, that were in fair condition, for just under $500. Again, they were not pristine, just fair condition. Just my 2 cents.

Agreed - I wouldn't give more than $575 for that gun as described. Of course, wait a year or two and we can all start saying "I wouldn't give more than $800 for that gun as described"

Also, stainless guns in "well used" condition often clean up very easily. Usually involves replacing whatever Goodyear re-tread grips it has with some wood stocks and careful polishing of scratches, etc. I have seen many like this that were carried a lot, and shot very little that went out the door cheap.

At the end of the day, I would determine what you want to do with it, and how much it is worth to YOU, then go from there.

Good luck

That -4 looks great! The cased hammer and trigger really stand out.

This -1 has the original grips and I don't think it's been cleaned up. I do, however, think he's asking a little too much. I'm thinking I'll offer $600 and let the chips fall where they may.

There are Model 66 2 ½" all over the Internet, but then buying and transferring them involves additional fees. I'm in Southern California and I haven't seen a 2 ½" Model 19 or 66 for awhile at any price. If this is like New In the Box you are paying a premium price for the time portal effect.

If the shop won't come down on the price ask if they will sweeten the deal by throwing in some ammo or a holster. What is $30 worth of ammo to you retail might be $15 wholesale to them. Try it.

Good hunting. They are great shooters!

I have, and will, pay $650 for LNIB P&R 66's. I don't think I could go $700

I bought my 66-4 (possibly unfired - the sight had never been adjusted) no box or stuff, for a lot less than that at a Cabela's in the last couple months. So IMHO; that's too much. I'd say offer some lower number like, say, $5-something, which IMHO is reasonable, and check back once a week or so.

Just my .02.

I offered $600 and they won't take it. The gun is a consignment in the shop, the shop owner called the gun owner and he declined the offer. That's okay, I recently acquired a nice nickel 19 2.5" so I really do not "need" this gun but wouldn't mind having it as I like the added durability of the stainless steel. I'll wait. Maybe if it doesn't sell in the next month or so the owner will come down in his price. If not, then it just wasn't meant to be!

If I had the money I'd buy it.I paid $600.for a 66-2 4" last year but then I'm in behind the iron curtain

WOW!!!!!!!! I bought a 66-2 4" 3 weeks ago for $400 PLUS got a free hard case. I do feel sorry for those in California.:(

Good idea. There's others out there. You just have to be patient and check THIS forums "for sale" section every 5-10 minutes, as they don't last long:). Certain fella who's name will remain anonymous beats me to combat grips EVEY time by minutes.

You did well. You would be surprized at how durable nickel is. Have a nickel 2.5" -3 that I packed in a shoulder holster for two+ years on my Harley. Revolver weathered many a storm and perspiration from NC's muggy, hot summers. Kept a coat of Turtle pste wax on the exterior and Militec-1 on the interior and it looks almost as new as when I bought it 5 years ago. I have never polished it up and won't until I absolutely have too. It's still a shooter, not a picture queen.

I did end up buying a 2.5" 66-2 for a carry weapon as I wanted to keep the finish looking great on the -3.

Just wait, be patient and your 66 will come.

Here's mine with a set of the Executioners stags and a Tyler. Darn good revolver. Need a set of his stags for my 27.

Good luck on your quest. These S&W's are the equal to the movie National Treasure:)!

I don't have a bit of problem with nib or lnb at 600 w or wo box and papers. Combat grips are $50 plus easy. I'll even go up another 50 for FTF no tax, no shipping, no nics cost I'm looking forward to the next LGS to go s&w hunting.

5 years from now that $50 plus minus will be forgotten and inflation and appreciation will have covered it.

I can pay "$50 too much" for a 66 or 19 in 2.5 inch in 90 percent plus and turn it around for $50 more in 30 days.
