I think you'll like it. Just use full loads only about 10-15% of the time. Avoid the hot 125 and lighter grain .357 loads; they are very erosive.

If you don't like the Hogue grips, try Pachmayr Presentations. The older two-piece Pachs feel best, I think, if you can locate a pair.

The four-inch M-66 is probably as close to being the ideal all-round handgun as anything, and better than most.

Are you sure it's a 66-1? Looks to me like the rear sight assembly is stainless steel like the no-dash models...

Yes it is a 66-1, and you're right it is stainless.I got it without a sight because the previous owner had a scope on it. He ordered a new sight from Numrich, and this is it. Pretty observant of you.

I recently bought one just like it, been looking for years. Then I went and bought a Rossi model 92 lever action in 38/357 to go with it, great combo.

What is up with all of these 66's? Let's see some more. Flightsimmer, I found a Puma 92 a few months ago with a 24" octagon barrel and love it. Most of my S&W's are 357 so it fits right in.

NIce looking revolver there. The only 66 I owned was the 6" version and foolishly sold it.

My first Model 66. A -1. Found this one locally. Was amazed how silky the double action was. Super accurate, too.

So, I opened it up for the usual inspection/cleaning that all my used revolvers get. No wonder it was smooth. The entire action had been polished and jeweled. First time I'd ever seen anything like that:

I think you're right. Already got my "sights" set for a 2 1/2".

I just got my 66-2 recently and have only put a couple hundred round through it. I it sweet. I love it. Now I'm after a 27 or 28. Seems addictive. You only go around once.

That's interesting to hear. I thought the black sights starting in a second run of no dash 66's. I've got a no dash 66 with stainless sights front and back.

I can see changing or painting the rear sights, though mine don't bother me. I quite like the stainless front blade and it stands out nice and bright. If I'm looking hard at the front I don't usually notice the rear too much.

Nice find. I've never seen a M66 that didn't have a really nice trigger. But, JWK, the insides of your gun is wild. Never seen anything like it.

I just put a 66-1 21/2 " on hold it is NIB. I'm working tward trying to learn the photo posting thing. Someday soon I'll post a bunch of pictures. I passed on the 4" & 6" guns from the same lot. I will probbly kick myself in the behind for letting them go. But as my collecting mentor always says you can't have em all.

Yes, the stainless rear sight should fit, no problem.

A rear sight made before 1968 (66 not introduced until 1970) wouldn't fit right because of the location of the screw that secures it but other than that, unless you got a new style rear sight ('rounded tip' - post 1994), it should fit just fine.
