Alright, immediate apology for quality of the pic. I'm still at work and couldn't wait to throw this out here. I'm new to the forum and still get excited when I get to post something. I found a guy willing to part with a 66-2 with the short barrel (2 3/4" I think?). I've been looking for one for quite a while and haven't been able to find one I liked for a price I could afford. Anyway, I will post some better pics tonight when I get home.

It's got a few scuff marks on it, but that's the great thing about stainless. I'll get those buffed out this weekend with some Mother's Mag, etc. (Thanks to the forum for all the ideas)

So my serial# is ANB6XXX. I was kind of hoping somebody might help me out with some info. I haven't gotten around to buying the Holy Grail Smith and Wesson book yet, but it's on my list.

I like these grips for funcitonality. They feel good, but I still ordered a set of Ahrends to put on it so I can show off a bit.

Congrats!

I bet she looks even more beautiful when you are through. Those 66 snubs are getting few and far between. Enjoy yours! Regards 18DAI

Hello,
Nice 66-2. It has shipping date of sometime in 1986, according to the SCSW 3rd Edition. Polish her up and show us the after pic!

AR,
Nice gun, you will love it. The dash 2 was made from 82 to 86 if I'm correct.

I came home from work yesterday and my Ahrends were sitting in the mail box. Fingerless boot grips. I think the finger grooves look better but my hand doesn't quite fit the grooves proper. The Ahrends are pretty comfotable so you may end up shelving the rubber. They quoted 10 weeks but I think it was quicker. Regards MIke

Mike,

Thanks! Those grips and that 66 make an amazing combination. Ill be checking the mailbox like that kid on "The Christmas Story" waiting for his decoder pin.

The grips are the tung oil Padauk. I was a little leery of ordering the Padauk as I have never seen it in person. Ended up with some nice grain and a rich look. I'm a happy camper.
It takes a week or so for Judy, at Ahrends, to process the order. She has no problem with changes up to that point.

Excellent looking 66!!! My first S&W is also a 66-2 snub. Great revolvers that will always be popular, and in high demand. And to think that S&W doesn't have the smarts to produce these ever again....that's a head scratcher.

Enjoy you new 66. I carry a 66 no dash snub with Grasshorn grips and a Tyler T. You will really like the way that thing shoots!

I'm going back tomorrow to deal on a 66 stubbie, don't remember for sure if it is a -2 or not. Metal is nearly dead mint but some moron changed out .the factory grips. Does have wood grips that have a good fit for me. Dude is asking 7 bills, hope green back cash talks a bit.

I hear you! What was the reason behind discontinuing them? Demand go down? Focus on autoloaders? I'm new to the forum but it didn't take me long to realize that plenty of folks still like these six-shooters.

I talked my guy down to 6 for this one. Hurt my pocket a bit but I've been after one of these for a while. I think she's worth a few nights of ramen noodles.

Nice score.
I chased down a 19 and 66 in 2.5 in last year.
That's a "must have" revolver. Iconic.

Weird sequence and a wide range, it seems. I'd guess after 1984 and before 2004. If you get the gun lettered, you'll know for sure.

Nov. 1985 ALA -ALC
Jan. 1986 AHC 1687
Apr. 2004 ASR Model 327

66-2 (1982): Eliminate cylinder counterbore and pinned barrel; slight change in cylinder length to 1.62".
