I was at a pawn shop Saturday and found a 66-2 with Crimson
Trace laser grips on it for $600. Figure the combination was
worth $600 so I bought it. I thought it was a 2.5 inch like my
m19-3 but when I got home and put them side by side, I found
the 66-2 is a 3 inch. Now I know I got a good deal. It
has some holster wear. Was told it was a Deputy's service
gun for years. Carried a lot but shot very little and I believe it.
The Cylinder and Bore are spotless and bright. No powder
rings on the cylinder either.
What'd ya think, good deal or am I wrong?

Fantastic deal! Great job!

A little gun oil and 320 grit sand paper and you should be able to get a nearly factory new finish to come out!

Think that would work? I'd like to try it but I don't want to
hurt it any.

320 grit is way too course unless you are removing deep scratches or nicks. Even 1000 grit may be too course just to restore the finish. Experiment on a stainless Taurus to learn your way first.

Depending on how bad the wear is and how you want it to look when you're done this video may help.

Watched the video and realized that's not what I wanted. Went
out to the garage and got the Mequiar's All Metal Polish I use on
my Harley Ultra Classic and tried that. Here's the result. Picture
doesn't do it justice. Looks brand new now. Thanks for the
mental jog though. ;)

Figured that watching the video.
Thanks,

Wanna make a hundred bucks on it?? :D

Some people just live right!

I found one about 5 years ago in a rural hardware store for $325. I could tell it wasn't a 2 1/2" and couldn't get my money out fast enough. Great find!

You found a great deal on a fairly rare 3" 66 Congrats !!!

Wouldn't happen to know how rare would you? I've always
heard the 3 inch was rare and a lot more valuable but never
knew why exactly.

Would need much more info. on the gun to know but there is some good info. that you could research right here on this site.
Start here:
http://smith-wessonforum.com/s-w-revolvers-1980-present/139199-history-3-model-66-a.html

Just thought I'd read that thread but I hadn't. According to that,
my 66-2 sn AHL38XX was made in May of 1985 for Ashland
Shooter Supply and is one of a run of 4195. (if I'm reading it
correctly) A lot more info than I ever expected to learn.
I appreciate your help.
