Been looking at a 66-2 with 4" barrel. According to SCSW it places it 1982-1986 but I can't find the serial number in the appendex AUF92XX. Can anybody narrow down the date a bit or tell me where to find it short of a letter from S&W.
Nice shape, S&W Pachmayr grips, shot very little but no box or papers, any thoughts on price range?

The Catalog says AHC was from 1986 and AVB was 1987, so it's somewhere in there.

I just bought a 66-2 with Pachmayr grips, no box or papers for $465. That was a little high for me considering I also paid $55 for period correct target grips. I think a 66-2 would go for $450-500.

Thanks for the replies, Iwas having trouble reading between the lines in the SCSW. Since the -3 came out in 1986 guess that narrows it down pretty well. Price is a little higher than I expected but of course I'm looking to buy not sell.
What was the correct original grip for this gun from the factory?

e,

If you do an image search using your favorite search engine, most of the 66-2s have the target wood as described by snw19. A few of them have the football cutout. Don't know if they were original. I'm certainly no expert. I opted for the full speedloader cutout.

Here are my two 66-2s with their shorter -4 cousin.

They have serial number prefixes of AAU (4") and AJP (6") and both came with checkered Goncalo Alves target stocks with the speedloader cutout.
