Picked up a mint 66-4 2.5 barrel today. I noticed that on the bottom of the top strap inside the area where the cylinder is when closed there are two small threaded holes... None of my other smiths have these holes. Should I be concerned?

They started drilling and tapping all of them with the introduction of the M66-4, so it is as it should be.

My 66-5 has those as well. maybe something that has to do with attaching the rear sight?

Not Unusual

Are you sure there are not three holes. These are to mount a scope, well more specifically the rail for either a scope or a light or anything that mounts on a scope rail...My two new Smiths each have these holes.

Just looked at it again. There are three holes. The third is just on top of the forcing cone. Thanks for the quick replies. This gun needed a quick clean up, and it is a nice companion to my 686 2.5".
