Ought this model be recessed? Looking at one online that clearly is not.

Much obliged,
_matt

Recessed chambers were discontinued along with the barrel pin by the dash 2 engineering change in 1982.

In 1995 the dash 5 traded forged hammers and triggers for MIM parts and moved the firing pin from the hammer to the frame. Before then square butt frames were dropped and S&W started drilling and tapping 3 holes under the rear sight for optics mounting.

No, none at all. One of the finest revolvers ever made, the Colt Python, has had a frame mounted firing pin since it was introduced in the mid-1950's and no one has ever said a bad word about it.

The Python also never had a pinned barrel or recessed chambers either.
