Has anyone had a 66 or 686 conversion done to a 9mm & 38 Super? How well does it shoot? I have a 66 I have been thinking about having it convered. Here is the 66:

A Model 66 or 686 will already shoot 38 Super ammo as is.

I wouldn't modify a 66 that's as nice as that one. The gun is worth far more as is.

Take two aspirin and lie down until the feeling goes away...........

+1, and some J frames as well. Winchester 38 Super Silvertips fit several of my J frames, but don't think I will try it in them. It's just a matter of time before I fire some in my M28 or M66. The PMC is pretty weak, as is the Armscor, so they would be good candidates.

Been there done than and it works...but for some reason the only rounds that will enter a .38 or .357 are the Silvertips. I had several other brands on hand and none would chamber as the OD was just a hair too big to chamber in the guns being tested.

I have two of the PC 686s that came from the factory in Super and had but sold one of the 627s. They are great shooting guns. My dream is to have an extra cylinder made for one of the two 60-10s I have.

My carry gun for the last 28 years has been one of two Commanders in .38 Super. Finally having a revolver or two that shoots the same round is great. The revolvers however will not chamber brass that has been fired through a semi-auto...at least none of my three will. I bought some new brass and it is kept well away from the semi-auto rounds.

I handled one of those in a gun shop once, and was very impressed. It looked good and felt good, but the $800+ price was more than I could handle. I have a Sig 220 and Colt 1911 in 38 Super and 28 boxes of factory ammo, and a brother who reloads the round, so would like to be shooting some in my revolvers.

I was going to get another cylinder for it and set it up. I have a 617 that can go 6 or 10 shot, just change cylinder and hand and you are ready to go

. I like to shoot 9mm and 38 super out of it, and make it easy on the wife.

All three of my Supers were LNIB but had been fired...I think they were $850.00 each...but since the 627 sold this last spring for $1365.00 and I've seen the 686s sell for $1200+ I look at them as an investment I can also enjoy shooting.

Bullseye Smith...I spoke to the people at Phillips&Rodgers before they went out of business. They told me they could make a .38 Super cylinder for the 60-10...I just never got around to doing it before they were gone. If you can find one of the Medusa revolvers it will shoot anything from .380 ACP through .357 Magnum with no cylinder changing...

One of my friends has a 686 that has been moonclipped to chamber and fire .38 Super brass and he loads the Super brass with .357 bullets. His moonclips were specially made just for that gun but now I think L Frame moonclips for the Super are mainstream.

I'm leery of all S&W .38 Super revolvers. My 627-4 would not shoot cast bullets of any diameter and they all hit sideways at 10 feet. I think they were using .357" barrels on those guns.

I never thought of shooting 38 Super out of a 357 revolver before. May give it a try with some of the more mild Super loads like PMC. What I would really like to see is a J-frame in 9x23 Win (just like the old PC Pocket Rocket in 356 TSW).
