66 no dash

I've got a 2.5" 66 no dash that is my EDC. Since they seem to be getting collectable, should I put it away or keep carrying it? What would/do you do?

I would keep on carrying it but that is completely up to you. Stainless guns are pretty durable and if you have carried it for a while I doubt you will do anymore harm to it.

Just my opinion though.

It will be tough to find a more reliable gun.Plus you have a choice of 38+p's or magnums.

If your comfortable with it, then 'carry on'. Pardon the pun. Take care of it and it'll take care of you, clean it and don't hammer nails and you shouldn't have a problem with it.
Of course the collectability point is always a good excuse to lay on the Wife around Christmas time in hopes of a new addition...it's worked for me in the past.

A big part of the 66 2 1/2" allure is that it is such a great carry gun. They had a huge following and were in great demand when they were first being produced. All production it seemed went to law enforcement orders. Many were sold at huge premium prices back then and even so, were very difficult to find. I collect them too and it is one of my favorites.

For me it would depend on how much shooting I was expecting to do with it in the future. If you expect to shoot many magnum rounds through it I think I'd put it away, keeping in mind the K frames vulnerability to a constant diet of hot loads.

IMHO, if there was ever one pistol in the S&W lineup whose design, function, usefulness and desirability was deserved and earned it is the Mod. 66 2 1/2". And I believe that's why everyone seems to want one... Being a no dash, P&R gun just makes it that much more desirable....
