67-3 HB?

I recently noticed one of these models for sale on an auction site. While aware of the heavy barrel 15 I didn't realize Smith did the same with the 67. I don't enjoy shooting magnums in K frames but enjoy the heck out of a .38.

I realize many prefer the aesthetics of the tapered barrel 15/67s but I like the looks of the heavy and with the prices of 66s going nuts I'm thinking this may be a good alternative when I have the funds saved for my next purchase. Any owners of this model, opinions of it? Thanks.

When I first started collecting S&W "K" Frames a couple of years ago I wanted a nice M10 to be in my collection, that is when I found the barrel options and really had to have the "Bull Barrel". It is one sexy beast. I probably payed a bit higher than I should have but found the market heavy on the tapered barrel so I paid $550 for what I really wanted.

I then was lucky enough to find this M67 about the same time for $400 so it helped balance things out price wise. I love both these revolvers but was under the impression that I have the tapered barrel in the M67 as it is quite a bit more slender than the M10. I would appreciate it if someone with more knowledge could chime in one this subject. I just ordered the "Standard S&W Collectors For Revolvers" but still wouldn't mind to get a opinion from a forum member. Best Regards

Raylan, you do have the standard tapered barrel. I've never seen a 67 with a heavy barrel, and the 3rd edition of the catalogue doesn't list that option for a 67-3.

That doesn't mean S&W didn't make a run of them sometime, for somebody, there's lot's of things I haven't seen.

For a short time when S&W lost their way and quit listing model 14's (6" untapered barrel target .38) they just listed the same gun as a model 15, concurrent with the 4" tapered barrel. And there are instances where they made shorter barrel 14's for special orders.

But back to the topic, I'd like to see a picture of a heavy barreled model 67! I think it most likely that the ad the original poster saw was mis-labelled although I wouldn't be shocked to have a member here post a picture of one.

I had one, don't know the dash, bought it at a gun show, rd. butt. Discovered it had push off, sent it back to Smith and they fixed it for $108, IIRC. Fairly recent production, like late 90's. Traded it, but HB is the way to go.

It was on what's probably the most popular auction site on the net, unclear on the rules so I didn't want to post to the ad, it sold over the weekend but it was definitely a heavy barrel 67-3, square butt. The photos were very clear and showed the markings in the yoke as well as the barrel. Looked just like the heavy barrel 15s that exist but in stainless.

Not sure how to do the "completed auctions" search on that site but it was what it was (clear as mud? LOL).

I've owned 67-1s in the past (as well as 15s, 19s, 66s, 27s, 28s, 29s, 629s etc etc haha) so I'm definitely familiar with the tapered barrel.

Surely someone here has or had one of these?

The heavy 4" barrel model 14's made were usually 14-3. I guess this could be a nickel or hard chrome plated version of that gun, but it probably is a heavy barrel model 67. But I tire easily of guessing, I hope the person who bought it belongs to this forum and will give us the scoop.

I think I'll post a link in the collector's forum, maybe somebody who really knows his or her S&W (obviously not me) will have the information.

I searched, and there was a 2010 posting from "41 Fan" with a heavy/straight barrel that he said was a 67-3, although there's no picture of the model # area. Must have been a special run? I know when they went to the two-piece barrels they were straight, but those were/are "-6" models.

The one I saw is different from the one Bullet Bob found, the seller of the one I saw has 67-1 with a gold trigger shoe still up if that's help in the search. Very clear photo of the yoke cutout marked "67-3". Thanks all.

yes the same time they made the model 15's( 15-6) all HB ( mid 80's) they made the 67 the same way,just not many) like a 4" 14. Nice guns.

According to the SCSW the -3 came out in 1993. It had the new style rear sight and was drilled and tapped. The GB -3 I posted has a standard style latch, so it was probably made before 1996. The -3 CALREB posted has the new style angled latch, so it was likely made 1996 to 1998. (Of course, there's always some overlap). The -4 was introduced in 1998, that's when they rolled out the new frame.

How odd that this topic came back up as a new "like" in my mailbox, I found one of these 67's back in March and POUNCED on it, $620 brand spanking new. It's a 67-6 HB with a round butt, the Serial number is CYZ23XX, and it's my new Duty Gun. Better still, the mailman just dropped off a gently-used Don Hume swivel/snap holster for it, and the fit is excellent, plus it drops the gun down an extra three inches, where it needs to be. I'm kind of pear-shaped as well as short-waisted, and with a regular holster the stocks are up near my armpit by the time the barrel clears leather, this holster should help with that. The stocks are my favorite pair of Craig Spegels, and have graced numerous 38's over the years.





I also found my "Ultimate Carry Ammo," the Speer Gold-Dot 135-grain Short Barrel load, which I've been searching for for the past ten years, I bought 300 rounds of it so I should be covered until I retire in 50 years. ;-)
