It's lasered to a depth of around 10 thousandths, so I shouldn't need worry about polishing it out.

Pigpen shoots like a dream, hitting 5/6 of the first trigger pulls on a 5-inch plate at 30-feet.

I've got a "pigpen" on the way as well.... only its a 66 and a snub... really don't know what I wanna do with it yet...

As long as the mechanics are fine should be good to go...

OP's piece looks almost as bad as the M64 I got from J&G, or was it Classic? Anyway, it has scratches ALL over! Even the wooden stocks looked furry! I almost think that it spent a week in a cement mixer before they sent it to me. My ffl even asked me if I still wanted to accept it before he did the call, lol. But it was tight as a drum so I kept her.

I've revived 3 heavy barrel, 4", Nickel M-10s. They were police trade-ins. bought them cheap, disassembled, cleaned and flitzed them. Bought cheap used pacs ($5) at a gunshow. reassembled and they turned out nice. One had the best double action so I kept it as a house gun.

I would take a very fine file to the bumps and bruises and scotch bright to the rest....Shoots great, and would not look too bad after that. Love the sideplate...

I once bought a 4" 686-4 that was cosmetically beat to a pulp from an LGS in a small town not far from me.
Told me his son had used it guiding hog hunters down south. It was scratched, gouged and rubbed. The action however was perfect and it shot like a laser.
I rarely regret letting go of a gun but sometimes wished I still had that one.
