Good Evening. I can not find a schematic which identifies the little machined button that is on the left side of every revolver, above the trigger where the cylinder moves back and forth (when open) and makes contact with.
I always thought that this little protrusion or "button" sticking out from the frame was machined out of the frame.
Recently at the range I had difficulty opening up the cylinder all the way.
When I got back home I was able to determine that this little button/stop had rotated forward about 10 degrees allowing the cylinder to come into contact with this stop.
Obviously it's not machined and I presume it's pressed into the frame. A couple hits with a drift and it rotated back into the proper clocked position.
Has anyone had any experience with an issue like this?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thank you.

The frame lug is to prevent the cylinder from leaving the yoke when extracting empty cases. It is staked in on most Smiths, except ones made on the new frame starting around 2000. Those are forged as part of the frame. They rarely come loose. Just need to be restaked by someone who has the right tools and knowledge.
