686-1 TRADE STRAIGHT FOR THIS????

I have a 686-1 snubbie boxed and papered that I was thinking of trading for this 19-5 nickel.. Apparently the owner sent it to Keystome Arms to be polished by a person named Mark. Comes with the ram's horn grips from Maston Stag and the original stocks. Problem is my 686-1 is complete as it came from the factory. The 19-5 is gun only. At a investment standpoint, would you do the trade???? Don't usually see the 686-1 around being complete. Although the 19-5 is super nice. Pics of the 686-1 are in another thread I posted earlier.

I would keep the 686-1 with Combats WITHOUT a doubt. If you want a 19-5 you will find one.

I wouldnt trade away the 686. You have box, papers that could give it more interest if you ever go straight sale.

I think the 686 is a keeper. If you were able to get what you wanted with as much value as the 686, that would be a different story. Bone grips, nickel finish etc would cause me to back away to start with. The fact that it got a trigger job from someone that nobody ever heard of is also a turn off. Good luck finding what you want.

I agree with jimbo728. That 2.5 inch 686 with box and docs would be very difficult to find again. Buy a 19 and keep the 686. But, it's certainly your gun and your call. Good luck.

I agree with sodacan. The fact you're even asking is proof of interest. Boxes are overrated, anyway, especially for a non-exclusive or rare gun. Which one do YOU prefer is the question! You won't likely go wrong either way.

I'm sorry, but that 686 doesn't look polished at all to me. Kinda beat up a little, if anything.

I've got both snubbie's side by side. A 19-5 Nickel no box and a 686 no dash with box. Love both but hands down I'd trade off my 19 before the 686.

Bottom line, the 686 is a better gun. Keep your gun and shop around for the 2 1/2" 19 if you gotta have one. I'd look for a dash 4 or earlier though. Much more collectible.

From an investment standpoint only, the 19 could be of higher value. But from all other standpoints the 686 is better IMO.

If you want a 19 for collecting, find one that is pinned and recessed.

I don't think either is very collectible, box or no. But Smith revolvers are like potato chips. You WILL end up owning many. Resistance is futile. If you like the 19 buy it.

The 19 and 686 are both very nice revolvers. However, for general use and especially if that usage includes hot .357 Magnum loads, the 686 is superior. Keep the 686. It is worth more as it sits compared to the 19. JMHO. Sincerely. bruce.
