went to my local pawn shop today and saw a 98% pinned and recessed barrel SS 686-1 357 4inch barrel with black smith grips. do any of you fellows know when this was made and is $360 a good price for it. thank you your opinion is going to make me buy or pass on it.

Absent any pics or other info it sounds like a great buy.

i would say buy it. around my parts they go for about 550 to 650. I want one and will be getting one soon but if i found one for that price i would have 2

went back to the store to snap some shots

It's a very good price. These were made after the pinned and recessed revolver era, but the lack of these features do not affect them negatively in any way. Note there is no pin in the frame above where the barrel threads, and the chambers are flat and not counterbored for the cartridge heads, which are normal for this model. Enjoy!

thank you for the info. but i haven't a clue what that means. but after seeing the photos is this a good buy? i just wanta make sure from the pro's. Thank you Nick sunny Fl.

A local shop has 4 M686s and they are priced from $449 to $599. 2 of them are $599. So yes I think you've found a good deal on a very good S&W. Grab it.

If you won't purchase it, step aside and allow me to.

I carried a 4" 686-1 many shifts as an armed security officer. Mine served me extremely well, one of my finest duty guns. That is a steal for one in good shape.

I just paid $599 for a 4" no dash. I would buy another at $379!
It wouldn't even make it into the case around here...

Great price. Bought mine in 1987...dumbest thing I ever did was sell it. If you don't buy, please list where it's being sold at.
