Just wanted to know who would the forum recommend for custom work such as barrel porting and just tuning up this fine piece. I inherited this gun from my dad and it was purchased back in '96. It was and has been kept up meticulously.....Any suggestions...

Yes.......................

Don't mess up a nice gun!

Leave it like it is and enjoy your family heirloom!

Mag-Na-Port is the place to go for me. Though I don't like ported Snubby barrels, here is one they did for me. I am waiting for a similar 2" 64 as I write...it too will be unported.......Zebulon

I'd leave it alone if it were me. I really can't think of anything I would do to a S&W revolver other than slick up the trigger is needed-they are pretty much perfect at least for me.
This does NOT mean one can't play around with different grips-that is encouraged, I mean who gives a girl a Barbie without a couple of wardrobes :D

If you were to have the barrel ported, you would most lkely be banned from this forum. (j/k)
Consider it an heirloom.

Just a couple of recommendations 1st leave as is, like most suggested.

Or send to S&W for 1 of there action tunes etc.
If not S&W then try magnaport for slicking up the action.

I would highly recommend to avoid porting the barrel

I agree, action job, grips, holsters and lotsa rounds dowrange.

Better yet, trade it to me.
I have a 686-6 2.5inch barrel that has had the trigger job done. Very nice trigger without any doubt. I'm now wanting a stock trigger.

Shoot it before you do anything. You'll find out what you want or need. Good luck.

I shoot a 629 3 inch with 180 grain 44 Remington magnum ammo. The thump goes through everyone at the range, some like it some don't. Recoil is not a problem. The noise is. I hear that some outfitters have lawsuits over ported rifles causing hearing damage. Seems to me they are not wearing proper protective gear to me but who knows. It is true magna port is louder, velocities are lowered and some of the flame rises upward. I like to flame kiss a 7 yard target myself when practicing defensive draws. You may even be able to buy a pre ported pistol close to what you would spend in time and energy, but never gain in heritage. Don't kill a great firearm.
