I am reaching out to see if I can gain some insight and help into restoring a Smith & Wesson Model 686-3 4" Barrel.

This was inherited after my father passed and it was a wedding gift from his friend group. I would love to get it working again and prepare to pass it on to my own son in the future.

It appears to be missing (numbers as shown on schematic)
1. Extractor Rod
2. Center Pin
3. Center Pin Spring
5. Extractor Spring
6. Gas Ring
9. Extractor

At some point prior to his passing I believe the extractor/extractor Rod had crossthreaded. It never got resolved or put back together and I can't seem to find any of the parts on hand anymore. If you can help me source the correct parts and help me make sure I'm not missing anything it would be deeply appreciated.

I have reached out to both of those locations and it seems the extractor is hardest to source.

The extractor is factory only part because of the fitting required. Your best bet is send it to S&W. Contact customer service @ 800-331-0852 and discuss it with them.

You might find a complete cylinder assembly, or a "parts kit" from a salvaged revolver on E-Bay.

Appreciate the response, I will reach out to them.

Side note, fellow Sandy resident and happy to see one in this forum!

There is an outfit out there called EveryGunPart. They sell "parts kits" consisting of what is left over after seized guns are frame chopped by the cops. Some of them are really ratty. Some of them are in good shape and complete. That being said I would go with sending it back to Smith as an opening move. Good luck with the project.

I used everygun part to get a set of parts for a Ruger Service 6. They where in very good shape and the price was very agreeable.

I'd try S&W first though, I'd also check to see if those parts where used on other models or dash versions.
