So a 3" dash 4 wasn't good enough that you had to get the comped model?!?:D I'm jealous. What a sweet, sweet gun! Congrats!

It was called the Lew Horton Mag Comp. I have notes that only 326 were made, so it's an uncommon and very desirable gun.

The 686-4 was actually called the Carry Comp as the 6 shot was the Mag Comp.

They made 2 686-4 versions. 1 fluted. 1 unfluted. Both 7 Shots

1 Mag Comp 686-3 6 Shot.

Here are mine.

Fantastic gun. I once had a 686+ 4" pre-lock that I sent to S&W for the installation of a 3" barrel. They also did some smoothing out for me, included. Then I sold it! and gave away the 4" barrel. This was perhaps the one truly bad move I ever made when it came to selling guns (others I can excuse because they let me experience yet other guns... but letting that one go was a bad mistake).

So I'm getting closer to buying a 686+ with a 3" barrel, of course with the IL. It will be great, but it won't be as wonderful as my original 686+ 3", or the OP's Lew Horton model -- which sets the standard. The 686 just looks and handles superbly with the 3" barrel.
