What can anyone tell me about a model 686-5 "The Presidents" model. It is a brushed gold finish with finger hardwood grips. I cannot find anything about this revolver in my reference material. It is a non pinned barrel that was manufactured approximately early 2002. Could it be for export only. Any thoughts.
Thank you,
RLH

Not too high tech on the photo side but I'll describe for you. Gold brushed finish, unfluted cylinder, 4" non pinned barrel, finger placement grips light cherry hardwood in color, has "The Presidents" written on the right side of the barrel in cursive.
I referenced the product codes close to this revolver and came up with early 2002 as production time. That's about all I can tell.
Hope this helps, Thank you,
RLH

No mention in the Standard of SW and I searched diligently.

Sounds like one of those "commemorative" model you see in American Rifleman all the time. Gun was built by S&W and prolly then modified by some custom gun house. The problem with these types of guns is that they are intended to be instant "collectors items". Except no one shoots 'em, they just stash 'em away. They never really get any "rarer". On the secondary market, they rarely fetch higher than the price paid for 'em and often lose quite a bit of value.

I believe this is it.

This model is one that was built for export to Germany. According to S&W only three (3) were made available in the U.S in 2009.

A little research and I found a used model can be purchased in the $2,500 range.

I want this and was wondering if it would be possible for all of us to message S&W urging them to make this for America/California. If we all do it they might oblige. Who's with me?

I bought a used one yesterday. The prettiest revolver I ever have seen. I am going to shoot it tonight for the first time and I am just excited.

Added Jan 2017:
Well, I have being shooting pistols for many years in competitions, but it did not work out with a revolver for me...until now. It is just a pleasure to shoot and every time I shoot it or just look at it I am very pleased.

One thing is wondering me...the serial number. In the letter from S&W later on in this thread, a serie of 15 revolvers starting with serials number dcx was produced to Germany. My revolver have serial number CFJ.

I suspect S&W would have to put the Lock in a new production model. To each his or her own taste, but it does not do it for me.

One would think you would need about a thousand buyers lined up to get S&W's attention unless you are military or first responders group wanting a commemorative. (this is only a swage or guess on my part)

686 Presidents

I have a Presidents New in the box and am trying to ascertain its current value, any input would be greatly appreciated.
