Finally got to get out and shoot a little.
Did some final chrony work with the snub and then did a few
158gr loads to see what the fps was in a few maximum loads. (5 ea.)

25 yards off a rest............I was happy with the poa and group size for iron sights.
The 158 xtp was near 2400 max.......and the Green Dot was Alliants maximum charge but felt light in recoil to me.
Very few use Green Dot so I had to see how it would do.
later.............

Looks like your 686 6" pistol is shooting verygood. When was this gun manufactured. The newer -6 versions with lock are a little different from my -4 version. Biggest difference i noticed was trigger felt farther forward in the newer -6.

You must have the eyes of an Eagle. Judging by the ratio of the bullet holes in the paper on LWC side of the target the pink dot on the steno paper is about 5/8" in dia. I can barely see a 2" florescent dot at 25 yards . Nice shooting.

wow, looks great to me, especially with iron sights

question though
with the LWC's - did 2 rounds go through the same hole? the second hole from the top looks a little bigger

did you ever do the tests with 158 SWC's and 2400?

Those are both 5 shot groups........that one "Fuzzy" hole was widened by another bullet. :D

Yes I did my other 158 lead and 158 jacket test with the 2400 powder. I will not use it for lead since it was beat out by THREE other powders for target loads. It could not beat 5 @ .96 or 5 @ 1.05. Tried a full cylinder of Trail Boss and got 6 @ 1.35".

2400 did out shoot the other powders with the 158 xtp bullet with the modest 1274 fps ...........but SR 4756 and Blue "Dirt" gave it a run for it's money with Fac Dup speeds, but the best of these could only swing 5 @ 1.11" at 25 yards.

I got the revolver in 1/29/10 ser # CNLxxxx almost as good as a N frame.

Instead of driving 25 miles to the rifle range, I find it just as easy to drive up into the hills to do my chrony work on some 8.5 x 11" paper, for just a one or two gun test day. A sheet of paper taped to a cardboard box on top of a plastic crate is just right in height, for shooting off the hood.
