Am I correct that the 7 shot 686 would have come with round butt and rubber grips?

My 686-6 with 3" barrel came with round butt. I believe they usually come with rubber grips but mine is the 3-5-7 series and had wood grips. I changed my grips to Hogue bantam's. The attached picture looks like mine, but I borrowed the photo from the internet.

My 686-6 Plus "Deluxe" came with a round butt, and round-to-square conversion laminate wood grips, with the S&W logo laser cut into the wood. The grips are fine -- I'm just not a fan of laminate grips. I replaced them with some Altamont "Coke" reproductions.

I also have the 3" 3-5-7 TALO and it has these S&W marked grips. I don't know if they are original to the gun. The book says black laminate.
Shown with a 1978 66-1.

I recently bought a 3" 686+ deluxe. It is a round butt and came with wood. They are extremely uncomfortable and actually ripped the skin off the web of my thumb under recoil. They've been replaced with rubber.

Looks like Altimonts. They don't know how make grip for a recoiling revolver...ALL theirs are WAY TO THIN at the shoulders.

The 7 shot version was first produced during the 686-4 iteration. Some of the earlier -4 series guns were square butts, but I believe that by the time the 7 shot guns were produced all the 686s were round butts and came with rubber grips. The 4 inch and longer guns had Hogue round to square Monogrips and the shorter guns had rubber round butt grips.

These are way too thick, it's uncomfortable to even hold and I wear a 2xl Glove.

My 686-4 plus came with RB :D
