686+ and competition

Hello!

So I am about to purchase a four inch 686+, I love the fact it has 7 rounds.... But, I know that IDPA and USPSA restrict to 6 fires rounds to reload.

How much of a pain would it be to keep one round out of the speed loader? I would image making sure your cylinder is lined up for six consecutive shots would be the biggest issue. Anyone used a 686+ for either competitions?

I really like the plus model, however since I plan to take this through IDPA at the least, I am wondering if I should go back and see if I can switch my order to a standard 686.

And during reloads you will need to index your speedloader and cylinder to hammer. It could be learned, but it is easier to count to six and reload. You will have more important things on you mind.

I would. You can't even legally load 7 in IDPA.
I shoot IDPA/SSR.

True, that's why I asked how much of a pain it is to learn to load with one missing from the speed loader.

I will probably just head back and go for the six shooter. Plus it's easier to find speed loaders for the sixers.

That's true, but, I don't know if spending even more is worth it.

Once you get out there on the timer, giving away a couple seconds on every reload to index the cylinder becomes really annoying.

If the sole purpose of this gun is gaming then the 6 shooter is going to be the better option. I think having to index your cylinder with every reload would be a major handicap.

I went ahead with the six.

Well it's not, exactly. It'll do double duty for range trips too, however I think the six is just fine for what I will do with it regardless.

Very interesting. I didn't know that.

I'llstay safe though, I do a lot more IDPA right now.
