686, CS-1?

I tried the search function but it came up with nothing. What I found today, and put on layaway, is a 4" 686 (no dash) that is stamped CS-1 under the crane/yoke above the serial number. It has a narrow (1/10" I'm guessing) blue steel front sight with no insert, a plane black rear blade and a frosted or bead blasted finish to the stainless.

Is this one of those desirable, limited production guns I've read about or just some variation with a different front sight?

Buy it and lock it away from anyone who might tell you to get rid of it. Most folks prefer the 3" version, but in my opinion, a CS-1, any CS-1 is worth having.

The "CS" stands for Customs Service. When the Government made the switch to something else, a very large portion of the guns were destroyed, but a few were saved from destruction. I had a 3" CS-1 and foolishly traded it away for something else. I have been on the hunt for another ever since. The CS-1s are great guns and awesome shooters, and if you haven't grabbed it yet run, don't wait, run and make it yours.

LOL - Don't worry Sarge, this one is already on layaway. I'll pick it up in a couple weeks when I'm back that way again.

Enjoy your CS-1... I have a BNIB 3" version that has been stored away as a collectible since the day I bought it years ago.
