I just ran into a 4 inch 686 CS1 in a local shop. "2M" stamped near the model number. It is in good condition except that someone put red paint on the front sight. It also has what I think are combat grips on it rather than the original Pachmayers. The grips are smooth RB, have finger grooves, and I would guess are walnut.

They are asking $680. I think this is a raid the college fund situation, but I wanted to see if there is anything I should be on the look out for.

If S&W combat's, they sell for $200. The red paint can be removed with nail polish remover. Pachmayrs can be had for cheap. Sounds like a good buy for $680.

Yeah, that is a 'Buy it right dang now!' kind of price. The 4" CS-1's have been selling over a grand, and the combats bring upwards of $250 depending on version and condition.

The stocks do have the S&W medallion on them. I won't be able to go back until Friday, so I hope it's still there.

That's a great buy. Call and give them your credit card number either to charge and buy now or hold it for you.

Buy - Buy - Buy!
See the grips on the 3 inch?
That’s what came on these guns.

As a former U.S. Customs Firearms Instructor and the owner of a 3 inch CS-1, I would buy that RIGHT NOW!!! If you don't please send me the telephone number of the shop so I can complete my collection of former U.S. Customs guns!
