686 CS 3

i don't have my copy of the SCSW with me, and would like to find out about the model 686 CS 3 (not CS 1).

no "M" or "2M" stamp either.

was it a small run for dealers after the CS 1's were produced for the Customs Service?

A Search Site/Google search will find a few threads, but I gather these were similar to the CS-1s but mostly exported to Europe. Most have ".357 Security Special" laser etched in cursive on the sideplate, which must also be a European thing .

Guskody here are a few photo's of my CS-3 I used to own that now resides with another forum member but will be back in my stable again soon lol. I have not seen a CS-3 marked with a M or 2M inside the crane area, should just read CS-3 . Here is a little bit of info I added to a CS-3 thread a year or two ago. CS-3's are definitely a lot rarer/tougher to find than the CS-1. Some people think CS-1's are rare, they are not. There have only been a handful or two of CS-3 's found. After the CS-1 production run for both U.S. Customs Service and over-run guns shipped to US distribution, the factory left this model in the "line" for future law enforcement orders. Think of the CS-3 as simply the same model as the CS-1 but has the much improved later engineering change of CNC machined square cut ejector star, 357 security special on side plate as well as little bit wider black front pinned sight. The basic CS-1 features are there - bead blast finish, round butt grip frame and a pinned in front sight. This 686 was imported to Smith and Wesson's major German distributor Wischo. It has the Wischo marking underneath the barrel lug and also has the German proof marks. I have seen a CS-3 without the security special on the sideplate.
