According to the SCSW your 686 is from 1981 to October 1982. Probably early 1982. There would be no dash with this serial. Hope this helps.

If its a no dash then it's under a recall, Hammer nose and bushing is replaced. I sent mine in for the mod s&w does it for free. 888-331-0852 It took 3 weeks to get it back and they did a great job on it.

My 686 no dash has not had the mod and shoots great. If that is the case with yours I would not have it done. JMO
