686 engraved

last week I missed the purchase of the 629 8 "3/8 and I was really disappointed, but today I saw another gunsmith this very beautiful 686 in 8" engraved with gold insert which according to the seller never fired (collector's whim). He sells it for 1750 € (+ -1950 US $), I'm really interested, but what do you think ??

The desire for that gun would be purely subjective.

I'm not a fan of engraving, but I like some. Having said that, I like normal engraving, not "dedicated to someone" engraving.

Looking at the pics, this was done in "dedication" to someone, judging by the side plate.

So the interest in it would be zero for me, especially at a dang near $2K price tag.

That's me though.

Minimal engraving,gold accents,eight inch full lug barrel....Not my cup of tea.
I don't know the Belgian market,but that's much more than it would fetch here, I believe.

Pictures are not the best to see the engraving very well. But what I can, I don't see a more than 100% value mark up.

sorry but I would think this is aftermarket engraving and I do not see value in it. On a stainless gun that is not suited and the gold plating...sorry but not only no but no no. Stainless is heavier than blue, then you have a full underlug on a pumpgun length barrel, this is going to be front heavy like a 2x4.

It's good to listen and use other's opinions when trying to make decisions, but never fully rely on the opinions of others.

thank you for this advice, but I know how to share things, however previously I followed some advice from S & W members before deciding and it was fully successful, especially when I acquired a 36-6 mod that I did not know at all here in Belgium, and it is the friends of the forum who told me: "go there it is a rather rare model" (615 copies only) and here in Belgium I do not think we are many to own one !! Ditto for my 686-1 4 "which some people said here in Belgium that it was not reliable, there also the friends of the forum reassured me, I bought it, and I am very happy with it.
a lot of guys from the forum have an indisputable "expertise" for the S & W and I fully trust them.
