686 Frame Bevel

I have two 686-6's and on one, the frame under the barrel that the yoke comes up against has the edge slightly beveled. I was wondering if anybody else had a slighty beveled frame in that spot. The picture is not of my gun but it shows the area I am talking about in red. I know these guns are all hand finished but it would make me feel better to know somebody else has the same thing going on. And Yes, I know I am a little OCD.

I have a 686-6 and that area on mine also has a slight bevel, FWIW

My 686-1 has no bevel.

I'm not real sure what the purpose of the bevel is, but it seems to be on the newer guns and not the older.

I have a late 1993 serial numbered 686-4 that has a bevel there; it's actually right at the point following the dash in the model number stamp (i.e. '686-<bevel>'). Over this beveled portion is the '4' stamp; I've always assumed that this was a re-stamped -3 to -4 transition gun from the sn date and that it has factory wood target grips.

Well I have two 4 inch 686-6's and one is beveled and one is not, amd they where made about 3 months apart, maybe just different finishers some bevel some dont?

Well... There you have it. We now know, within three months, when the factory changed to the bevel.
