686 model numbers

Greetings all,
I have a 686. I was looking around the web and saw a close up of someone else's 686 and it said MOD 686-2. I know about the differences between the dash's but didnt realize that the dash's were stamped in with the model number. Do all 686's have the dash number stamped in as well?
