Congratulations on your 686 L-Frame.
I love mine as well.
I gave my first one to my nephew)

I hope he held on to it , he has one cool uncle.

Hi zzzcici,
I was hoping he would keep it as a family heirloom as well.
Unfortunately, he told me he sold it to buy a Sig 226 Blackwater
9mm.
As his Uncle, I was a little disappointed.

zzzcici, I think you did a great job with you 686. I had a 4'' that I had to sell, they are great,I miss mine!!!!! Have fun with her!

I would have been dissapointed as well.
I.m sure the Sig is a fine gun. I guess I am considered to be 'old school' I just can not lend my self to the hype of the 9mm semi autos. I know the argument in favor of the 9's, availability of ammo, capacity, and economical over the long haul.
I like the line of thinking that follows the hit your mark and make it count over the spray and pray philosophy.
The 686 is a good accurate, potent, reliable firearm which this newby prefers.:)

Thanks, I hear a lot of folks here say similar remarks, If they had one and let it go they miss it and or regret it. I am glad to have made this 686 my first S&W which I plan to enjoy. It is already a win-win for me, I loaded it with .38spl's and the wife loved shooting it, I had to practically pry it from her hand, for the remainder of that day I heard her comments that she liked shooting it and ,"it shoots real good." lol

This is only my 2nd Smith.
My 1st was a M-19 Combat Magnum. It was stolen years ago. :-(

TG,
I did a search and found the link for the polish I was talking about, it is:

Master Formula

Hey thanks for the info.

Your 686 looks great! I must say immaculate as well. I'm definately going to have to use that polish you recommended on one of my copper antique fire extinguishers. I don't have any stainless firearms anymore, but that looks like my next acquisition. I love the unfluted cylinder as well.

Enjoy your 686.

Dbird,
Thanks for the compliment. The polish I discovered at the international motorcycle show, they had a booth set up and was demostrating the product on soda cans. I debated spending the money for the stuff , then thought what the heck, I;ll give it a try. the show special included the three part kit at a discounted price (of course). When I tried it I was very pleasantly surprised. I first polished some aluminum to a mirror like finish as bright and shiney as new chrome. That project did require a good amount of work. For the '.357' , I used a dab the size of a pea. For the copper I think I would opt for the sealer/protector also.

You made a fine choice with that 686! Great revolver. Have a no dash 586 in nickel and a CS-1. Love em both and they are extremely accurate, especially the 586.

Don't Sell It! You WILL be kicking yourself in the arse down the road if you do and prices are not coming down.

After you have it all polished up I recommend you apply a coat of wax to it. It'll keep it nice and shiney for a long time.
Congrats!
