Howdy folks, tore down my 686 for a major cleaning and installing all new springs. All went well except one little razem frazem little critter that is making me nuts. The sear spring, for the life of me I cannot get it captured and kept straight while putting the sear in. I have destroyed one spring and don't want to do in another. Is there some magic trick to accomplish this? BTW I am new to the forum, so hello to all!

I use a hairpin for this frustrating task. Place the spring on the hairspring, compress the spring into the cavity in the sear.... while the spring is compressed, slide the spring, sear and hairspring all in one unit into the hammer. Once inserted, you can simply pull the hairspring out.

(Many experienced members here do this job inside a clear bag so the spring doesn't disappear when it leaves the workbench)

Heck, the DA sear spring is an easy one if you did that new fangled hand spring! First time I encountered that was a "ping" and 4 hrs of crawling around on the floor. Followed by nearly as long a time figuring out how to install it.

Congrats!
