686 plus Lock removal and plug install

Hello everyone. I have a 686 plus that I will be getting out of layaway in the next month or two. I have a plug in my safe waiting on it. I have a question though. I found the video on YouTube showing the removal. However, that was for a J-frame.

Could someone please help me in finding a video or a detailed guide with pictures from start to finish since mine is different internally? I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

I did it to my 686 a few years ago, took about 15 minutes. Quite easy.
Instructions should be posted in the thread of the guy selling the plug.

I appreciate the replies. I'm not to worried about swapping out parts. The only time I would go to a smith might be if I needed some proper fitting done. I have searched through some threads and have only seen pictures of the internals removed with the plug already installed. How different is removing the lock from a 686 compared to the j-frame in the YouTube video?

I've fired over 100K through my revolvers and never had the lock interfere with the operations. But to uninstall your lock its an easy task. As mentioned above there should be instructions with the replacement part.

Other than the procedure for removing the hammer, there is little if any difference in the J frame and L frame.
