I just bought a new 686 plus at the gun show today. Now that I have bought the gun I will ask the questions I should have ask before I got it home.:o The plus means more shells in the gun does this mean with less metal it does not need as many full house 357 loads. I got the 4 inch as I already have a 6 inch Dan Wesson that shoots a lot better than I do. How does your 4 inch 686 shoot. Help me feel better!!!! I also have a 657 Mountain gun 41 mag that I put a J point red dot on because of my older eyes and it is the best shooting hand gun I have ever owned. Thanks for any help on how the 686 will hold up as I do like med. to heavy loads with 125 and 140 gr. bullets

Plus means it holds 7 shots instead of 6. It can handle the full house loads just fine, don't worry about it. It is my favorite gun, a joy to shoot. It will last you a lifetime.

Wolf,

I have two 686+s with 4" barrels, and I shoot only 125gr. full magnum loads in them. The extra chamber does not weaken the gun, at least enough to make any difference in what ammunition you can use.

My guns are also extremely accurate, though that isn't such a large issue with me because I use them for defensive purposes only.

Enjoy your new piece.
Andy

If anything, the 686+ has stronger cylinders. The locking notch falls between cylinders, where the metal is thickest, instead of directly over the thinnest part in a 6 shooter.

Thanks for the help I went to the show just to get away from home as my sister in law is visting. Gun show was a lot quieter than the house!!! saw the 686 and decided the DW needed a friend got home and started thinking (bad idea) and decided to ask people that know. Thanks again

It's plenty strong for .357's. If there were a design flaw that resulted in cylinder failures in the plus line, it would be all over the Internet by now. I have a 686+ in 2.5, 3 and 4 inch. They are all plenty accurate - poor groupings are the fault of the shooter, not the gun.

Enjoy!
