Hello All,

I am looking for a red dot mount for a 686 that allows me to remove the red dot with a quick release so I can switch between red dot and iron sights depending on what I feel like at the range. I had the same set up on an AR using Leopold quick release and it worked nicely. Only reason I don't have it anymore is I get bored with ARs.

I saw the LPA Red Dot Ready sights and it looks exactly like what I am looking for. But it looks like nobody uses them so that makes me nervous. Anyone have experience with these sights? I am also open to other suggestions.

I haven't seen or used the LPA red dot ready sights, it's a new product, so probably not very many have them yet. The LPA rear sights are about the best iron sights you can put on a revolver, they are very high quality and give a good sight picture. I do use the older rear sight without the dovetail part and really like them. I don't think you could go wrong there, but don't have personal experience.

I really like a small red dot sight on a pistol. I started out with the tube style Tasco ProPoints and then switched over to Burris Fastfire IIIs. I'm also liking some of the newer micro red dots. I don't have any set up for quick removal. Once I started using these I really liked them too much to want to remove them. I have other guns with open sights if I'm feeling youthful.

I have my 617 set up with a Weig-A-Tinny mount and a Primary Arms red dot. It's not like the LPA, no irons, kinda wish I'd seen the LPA before. I like the red dot on the 617 and can always shoot my K-22 if I get nostalgic, old eyes and all.

I know this is a slightly older thread but do you have to drill and tap the revolver to install the mount for the red dot sight? Thanks.
