So, we discuss these things often enough, and I have never told this story.....and I promise a picture soon!
Quite some years ago I meandered into the LGS as I am wont to do and there in the counter was this absolutely lovely snub nosed revolver. Being a major league fan of such things I had to see it. It was barely used. I had to have it so, $350 later, it went home with me. By that $ number alone you can see this wasn't last week, yes?
So I had to find a holster. I was doing a lot of cowboy action shooting back then so I contacted a guy I was friendly with, a big supporter of the sport and a renowned holster maker, and he said he'd custom make a belt holster for me and that I should send him the gun. Oh, and by the way, while he's at it he'll give me an action job or whatever. Okay, cool. Off goes the gun.
When the gun and holster return there are two problems. First, the holster doesn't really work correctly - seriously? I strap a belt through it and the gun doesn't fit? From a renowned holster maker? YIKES!
I dry fire this puppy and I'm like, "HUH? DO WHAT?!" What did he do to the trigger? it wasn't bad to begin with - now it's like, I dunno, rough and rugged. Well, I'm not going to let him tinker with it, never mind go through the hassle of sending it back to Arizona. So I take a little drive to Fort Worth. Why? I know gunsmiths in Dallas, good ones, too - but Matt Brandt was the finest gunsmith I ever met! He's the only one I'll trust with this. BOY HOWDY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Folks, Matt Brandt sold his business and disappeared. If you ever run into him and if he's still working on guns he's the best there is. That 686 has the smoothest, finest, most comfortable, yet not too light trigger of any gun I have ever fired - not just owned - fired - and I have fired a lot of people's custom guns.
My bedside gun for quite a few years now!!!! Wonderful piece of machinery. Gorgeous, too, with a real red rosewood set of stocks!
