From my research S&W used the Product Code 150853 twice. Once as a 6 shot and one as a Plus. The 7 shot is listed as a 4" and the 6 shot as 3". I have the 7 shot with a 3" barrel. This is the type of thing that makes collecting S&W's interesting.

I don't know much about these newer guns but I would like to know how many 686-6 Plus TALOs with a 3" barrel were made, and who, or what is TALO.

Fantastic action and unfluted cylinder.

I don't know about the product codes. I bought a 5 inch Talo, 357 series in 2015. I bought the 3" version a few years later, but have since sold it. I believe these are still being made, and they are currently on the S&W products page. Talo was/is/might be a big distributor. Mine shoots pretty good, but I love the look of the unfluted cylinder. I shoot my old, 5" 27-2 a lot more. (His name is "Rusty", and he spent many years stored in a leather holster.)

The Old and the New

The TALO on the bottom and my 66-1 I bought new in 1978. L frame Vs K frame. Thanks for the insight on TALO.

The SN, DCN in the alpha/numeric section suggests 2008.

No idea where you saw that Product Code# info but as far as I know all of the TALO 3-5-7 Magnums were only 686+ (7 rounds) models & only came in 3", 5" & 7" models with unfluted cylinders.

TALO is a distributor which S&W no longer has a relationship with but the models were so popular that S&W continued production after the break-up.

They were introduced in Oct-2010

SCSW, page 325 (686) and 326 (686 Plus). SN info pg. 491, but we all know about the "Dreaded Triple-alpha Serial number Ranges". The registration card has a Rev. date of 07/10.

I hunted a TALO 686 in my acquisition period, but there was always something more "critical" that I bought instead. I like the unfluted cylinder look, but never acquired one.

A poster (above) states that TALO is the abbreviation for a consortium (good word?) of dealers in Tennessee, Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma. Do not know if the organization still exists.

Almost correct. Texas, not Tennessee. And as the link demonstrates, TALO does continue to exist.
About Talo — TALO Distributors Inc

And another poster suggested TALO no longer affiliates with Smith & Wesson. But TALO's website says otherwise: Smith & Wesson — TALO Distributors Inc
