Plunger rod and spring came out of the trigger, the little black one that goes back to the trigger spring holder. I don't know how it is supposed to go back together. Looks like one end of the spring goes in the rod ball hole. Any ideas? Rick

If you're talking about what S&W calls the trigger lever, it's supposed to be held in place by a pin in the trigger. What you're calling the "trigger spring holder" is the rebound slide. The trigger return/rebound spring goes in the big hole in the back of the rebound slide, the ball end of the trigger lever goes into a slight dimple in the front.
If the spring in question isn't a coil spring a bit over 1 inch long, you may be talking about the spring that's supposed to power the hand. Those parts are generally life of the firearm parts and don't need messed with.
Brownells & Numrich/Gun Parts Corporation have skematics that will show you how the parts are supposed to go back together. Or, a trip back to the factory might be in order-installing the trigger lever and pin isn't fun. I use an arbor press for that.

I think perhaps he's referring to the hand tensioning spring.....and the trigger lever, which sits in a cavity in the trigger. After reading his description a couple of times, I'm not sure.

I'm not really sure either. I wonder if he's been taking things apart that he didn't need to. Or, the trigger lever broke, but I've never heard of this. Third possibility occurs: someone gifted him one of those wonderful paper bag/cigar box problems.
Can't recall ever seeing one of those inside-the-rebound-spring trigger stop rods in a L frame.
Hearty AMEN! to the picture request. If he's as computer klutzy as I am, not going to happen.
