Hello Wondering if anyone knows what the best choice of moon clips to use? would S&W ones be better to use with most ammo or which ones from TK custom? I use mostly Speer gold dot/Hornady Critical for carry, but use standard cheap FMJ/soft point for practice.

Thanks.

I reload, and use the ones from Ranch Products. In reality, I find 7 rounds of .357 a bit difficult to load quickly in my L comp. Short stubby cases with round noses work far better for me.

TK Custom makes the best. Tell Tom what brass you are using and he will get you the right clips for that brass.

Ranch products are good but don't hold the brass nearly as tight as TKs. That's important for quick reloads.

I have both the PC 686 Plus and 586 L-Comp.

With a 586 L-Comp and Speer Gold Dot you want the carbon steel moon clips sold by S&W. TK Custom's alloy clips in either thickness struggle with Speer but I don't know about their carbon steel. Hornady I don't know. TK Custom 0.025 seems to be perfect for Federal brass.

Holding brass tightly does not necessarily reflect quality just the moon clips thickness relative to certain brass. Certain brass works best with 0.020 others 0.025 etc. Winchester will hold 'tight' with 0.025 TK Custom, but good luck getting it back out again.
