I was at an LGS yesterday and they had a 3" and 6" 686+. Brand new. Both were very nice and I could not see a seem on the muzzle indicating a 2 piece barrel.

Is this always the case with 686's? Or was I just not seeing it?

686's have always been one-piece barrels.

Nice. I did not realize that. That might make it a bit more desirable for some.... Although Miculek says how the 2 piece barrels are actually a good thing..... Not really sure what to think about all that.

What other current models have 1 piece barrels? I know the 642/442/638/637/437 airweight .38 plus P models have a 1 piece barrel. But the 360 and those higher end airweight j frames have a 2 piece.

I think maybe the 640 pro has a 1 piece barrel. That fluted one. But not sure about the normal ole 640. I'm not sure about the 649 and 60...... I think that came up before but now I can't remember what they are.....

If by "normal ole 640" you mean the one in .38 Special, it's a one-piece barrel. I can't speak to the .357 version.

The 649, as far as I know, has a one-piece tube.

Yes, the 640 pro and the others you mentioned have one piece barrels. For no reason other than aesthetics, I don't care for 2 piece barrels.

You almost convinced me to buy a 686-6 one piece barrel but with three kids in college I would have had to sell to buy. Terrible joke!
