Loved this little 9mm but hated not having a hammer spur and IMHO the right side decocker is useless for a right-handed person.

Installed a new hammer with a spur and half-cock, cut off the right side decocker and plugged the hole, and thinned the left side decocker and slide latch lever to where they are basically flush with the gun. Refinished the decocker and slide latch with an alum-oxide bead blasting and flat black Gun Kote.

To me it is just a lot cleaner now and much better for CCW. BTW, plugged the decocker hole by tapping and a stainless machine screw peened into the top thread and finished flush...no line

Thanks guys.

It's not hard to do Charlie. I scribed around the decocker shaft and ground it down close, then filed it so it was just flush. Just have to keep the end square. Hole approximately an eighth inch in diameter through the center. Just tap it,put in a length of screw, peen the end to swell it up in the threads and file it flush. I used a stainless screw as I originally intended to have the decocker "blued" with black oxide for stainless but wound up using flat black Gun Kote...cheaper, easier, and looks better too.

I took about two serrations off the left decocker. Still plenty there to operate it easily but it doesn't stick out so far. Same with the slide lever.

The mods just totally changed the pistol. Nice and slim now. The half-cock gives a shorter DA pull on the first shot but I prefer to cock the hammer for the first shot. The S&W hammer is a great design, spur is not in the way as it sets well below the top of the slide but it is easy and natural for the thumb to cock it.

I have been trying to find a spurred hammer for my 3913 but, I have been unsuccessful so far. I have been told that a 5906 hammer will fit, but haven't found one of them yet either. I tried Brownell's, but they never emailed me back. Where did you find the hammer for your 6904?
Thanks

Great work Dean....15 years ago there were a lot of guys replacing the bobbed hammer with spurs...I'm sure you've inspired quite a few more! It looks great and works even better......Zebulon

I don't know what the hammer was for. As far as I know the hammer from any full-size pistol of the same series such as 59X will work.

Have to use the hammer strut for the compact as it is shorter. Easy to swap, small roll pin. In fact the hammer can be swapped in just a few minutes. I just stuck mine in to make sure it would function and it is fine. Going to pull it back out and do some deburring, polishing and a little fitting.

Thanks for the complements! I enjoy working on guns as much as shooting them.
