6906 Performance Center price?

Hey guys I'm helping my father sell some of his guns to help with personal issues going on and I came across a gun in his cabinet that I cant find much info on. It is a S&W Performance Center 6906 compact 9mm. It has never been fired or been a carry, the gun and the two magazines have the performance center logos on them. He still has the original gun shop tag from when he bought and it claimed it was limited edition with only 100 made. I was wondering if anyone has any input on this gun and what would be good price to ask for.

That is a Shorty 9 and they command a fairly hefty price. I have seen several for over $1,000 on auction sites in the last few months.
 
Ya the only one I could find with a price was gander mountain sold a used one for $1400
 
It wasn't he has a gun cabinet just took the pictures with the original packaging
 
Sweet gun........ I have one from the same run mine serial # is "VPC 00xx" ...got it used from a buddy (managed a gun shop) in 95/96....I swapped out the adjustable sights for Novack's, stippled the grips,cut down the finger rest on the mag (non PC) and stippled that also ......... it became/and still is my primary hi-cap CC gun since 1995/6. Mine came w/ one 12 and one 15 rd mag (w/ spacer)

I picked up a second, PC compact 9 a couple of years later..... slight differences.... the front strap is not checkered, but it came w/ Novack sights. It's still LNIB w/o the box d---it!

These guns are keepers........... there will be no more........buy it form your Dad if you can............ mine are on the very "short list" on "will not give up" guns...........

You will love it ....... they shoot like target guns!!!!!!!!!

If it is as good as it looks in the picture it would bring over 1k on the auction sites...maybe quite a bit more on the right day. It is, I believe, the least number produced between the 9's, 40's and 45's. You shouldn't have any trouble selling it here in the classifieds. If I didn't already have one I would be all over that one!:)

Put it this way...it ain't cheap!! Unfired in box at least $1200 and up to a collector. JMHO

Buy it from your dad...you will regret it if you don't.

I think $1,200 is on the low end of possible prices that it will bring in that condition with the box.

Sell it here to someone who really wants it and I think you'll definitely get value from the gun, both monetarily and knowing that it is going to someone who will appreciate it and shoot it.
 
Well it looks like I came to the right place, I am impressed with how quick you guys reply and with good advice! I know I will regret not trying to make a deal with him but I would prolly just leave it sitting in my safe like he did lol. I always use my go to cz-75 sp01 for all my target shooting even though it weighs as much as a brick.
 
Lmasonic.......... my advice; keep a couple of your Dad's guns....... the one's he ........the ones that are "his guns".........

that said; these PC's guns are.... some of the best S&Ws made .... from the early days of the PC....short runs........ some day they may rank up there with (OK close to) the Reg. Mag.s..........

Hi Luke, you have a real jewel there sir. If this is one of your Dad's weapons you need to hold on to this. If it is a must sell situation, this weapon can command 1400+ to the right collector. I would not allow yourself to be low balled on this one. Magnificent collectible piece here. I drool looking at it.
 
I showed him this forum tonight and I'm pretty sure we are still gonna go ahead with selling it. He hasn't purchased a gun or have been shooting in the last 10 years but from speaking with him I think we might ask more towards the higher end of the pricing and if it takes a year to sell that's fine. Hate beating up the same question but I've heard several responses saying 1200-1400+ is the minimum, whats the higher end you guys would think these go for nib like the one I have? I have a feeling if a collector comes looking there won't be too many of these for sell at once.

I would put it up at $1500 and even then there may be the buyer who would pay more...timing is everything when looking for top $$. At $1500 you aren't giving it away and the buyer isn't quite over paying, just paying pretty stiff. JMHO and good luck with the sale. Mine's not going anywhere...;)

if you want to ask 2 grand for it, you are more than welcome too but IMO that gun is 800-1200 dollars with 1200 being the peak of that range. I gave less than 800 dollars for my pristine Shorty 40 and most of the Shorty 9 mms I have seen in the history on GB or GA have not sold for over a grand. If you do not need money then keep it or if you want to see what it is really worth then list it on an auction site and set a minimum reserve. One thing about it you are not going to find someone in the Ft. Meyers area to buy it from you so you will need an auction site to pull off a bigger number than 500 bucks.

Yes that is my listing and I put that up yesterday when I was just guessing at prices and going off just one used I found sold on gander. Thanks for the input and ill do some adjusting on price, that's why I came here

I agree it isn't a 2k gun but I can also say I have seen guns go on auction sites for more than is reasonable. I only paid $900 for my Shorty 9 but I would have paid more. Mine is LNIB and while fired very little, less than 50 rds, it was fired. The regular 6906 was produced by the gazillions while the PC version is scarce.

A rare unfired LNIB gun attracts the collectors and they will pay a premium for those qualities...$1500 may be the top end but I think it can be done. Again...JMHO.

You will find a buyer for it, I would personally ask 1200-1500 like has been said and go to GA with it. It might not sell at 1500 but I could see 1250ish for it, maybe. I would buy it if I did not have a big turn off on the 6906, they do not fit my hand very well. Lots of correction 6906s out there for 300 - 400 bucks. Stay away from a pawn shop with it.

No disrespect but to say any PC gun is not special is just ludicrous. They are so far and above the regulars it might as well be from another separate company. I have a ransom rest the SVI and PC guns are the most accurate semiautos ever made by ANYONE period i get better rest groups at 75yards than the wilson and bear at 25yard. and not IMO its a proven fact. Just got back from germany over in europe they have figured this out already the NIB unfired target champions are trading at 7000-8000 euros. I wouldn't sell mine for twice that. Those that are lucky enough to have a peace of the era of peak of gun manufacture should never sell it. They will never make them like this anymore all new innovations are for cost cutting. PC guns are the only to ever leave the factory with ZERO slide frame gap the two are actually touching. All things peak and we have seen it here.

ok so you would take your 2-3 grand and buy a 3rd gen performance center model over a Novak custom, Nighthawk et. al. Is that what you are saying?

The PC Shorties are the best Smith ever did in TDA autos. They took there proven production design and made it as well as it could be made. IMHO there isn't a better TDA in these calibers. To say the PC's are only $200 better than the standards isn't accurate. I have 6904's and 6906's...not the same guns. I also have a pre-rail 3913TSW...love that gun but it ain't no Shorty 9!

I wouldn't compare them to Baers or Browns or the other custom guns but those cost at least 2-3x the price...plus you can go buy those guns any day of the week...the Shorties are done.:(

I own a Shorty 40, it is nice but I think I hold my Sig P228 Swiss Police gun to a higher standard than it though and would probably sell it before I would the Sig. I guess it is all in what you like but I do not see the big deal in them. I mean your not talking an original 1881 Colt SAA, 64 Sweet Sixteen, early Model 12 Winchester or a one off custom gun. Sorry but I will take and keep my custom Novak's Hi Power Practical over any 3rd gen I have ever shot and they includes the shorty and the tsws. I love Smith but I also own and appreciate a lot of different firearms and some of you all drink the blue kool aid a little too much.

I can appreciate and respect your opinion.:)

I would love to have an original Colt SAA or some of the other guns you mention...that's one of the great things about guns...endless variety and something for everyone!:D

As for the kool aid...yeah maybe...but I like other colors, too!

I only own the guns that speak to me, so when the day comes to pick up that next special piece I won't be selling or trading...only adding! If your Shorty 40 doesn't mean that much to you...that's ok...the upside is that it will to someone else and you can turn it into your next grail gun.;)

The cool thing about PC guns is that they are/were only purchased and built once..............

In the 90s people were buying guns for $400-700 (plus tax) ; Colts, Browning's, Smiths' etc., then sending them off to be "rebuilt"...... and often times refinished....... for another $1000 to 1500(plus shipping 2 ways) and a 3-12 month wait.

......the PC took raw frames and parts and built the gun from the ground up..... "right" the first time......and selling them for $800 to $1000; saving the buyer 50% or more over buying and customizing.

Also given Novack's input on the 3rd gen guns......... my guess is that the PC guns are what Novack would have built as a "custom" vs. commercial/police duty weapon.

While I like my Shorty 9s......... my PC SD9...... is/ and will always be the only "steel framed" 4.25 inch barreled gun....... built on the 6906 pattern. That's about a custom as you can get..... in my book!!!!

I need a drink........ pass the Kool Aid....... oh h--- it's 5'oclock somewhere........ pass me a beer! LOL

PC guns always bring out the worst....... from those who don't have them!!!!! LOL

The other thing is not many know how good PC guns (at least the early years) are.....most I've seen for sell used over the past ...wow... 20 years; have never been shot......I've got 2 like that!

I got my first Shorty 9 and the SD9 in the mid 90s and shot them in USPSA and as a CCW...........they are sweet shooters!!!!
 
I like the Performance Center pieces and the Shorties and Tacticals are very nice. I am not a hater especially since I own quite a bit of 3rd gens. I did not really realize that there are so few TSW and Shorty 9s out there and while I do like the 39xx series, the 69xx series did not fit me well. It would someone else just a little too snappy and small for my hand makes it uncomfortable. The only statements I disagreed with are the comments about how Shorty Performance Center models being as good as or worth as much as or more than custom house models.

Everyone would love for their 500-800 dollar gun to be worth 1500-2000 dollars but that is not always the case. The 3rd gens are still out there and while some few bring big money most are gonna sell in that range even for TSWs and Shorties. Sometimes a person will ask a premium price and get it for one but those are not the norms usually.
 
Value is determined by the market.

I think the "premium market" for PC guns is small....... it's why I was able to buy mine new and used cheap in the 90s ($500-$750).......... even today in most LGSs I think a PC gun would/might only bring a few hundred more than a regular production gun.

But I think PC guns (at least the early years) are a good as "a custom house guns"....in their performance .... at a fraction of the price.

As I said earlier you didn't have to buy the gun at retail send it off for weeks or months and sink another $1000 to $1500 into it. You didn't have to have a gun with a perfectly good finish reblued, bead blasted or hard cromed after a couple of sharp corners or edges were "melted"

PC guns were great value for what you got!!!!
