I am looking for some information on the 6906. Did these have aluminum or stainless steel frames to go along with the stainless slides? Also, are they accurate for there size?

IIRC they were alloy frames with metal steel slides double stacked with DA/SA mechanics. The 3913 is more accurate especially in the tactical configuration. The 6906 is an accurate gun and I miss mine wish I would not have sold it.

I have 6 3rd gens, 2 are 69s 1 is a 3913 all are as accurate as me. The 69s should have been called the 6913/6914 to eliminate any confusion about configuration . I find the 69s feel better in the hand than the 3913 but that's just me, but then again my favorite pistol is the Beretta 92 ( big fail by Beretta not to have a single stack 3 3/4" 92 or a 69 sized gun as there 92 compacted) If you get a 69 you won't be sorry.

I just bought a 6906 the gun is accurate but so is about any gun until the shooter gets it in his hand. Mainly shooting 1911s I find the 6906 to be bulky in my hands. Its about the exact size as an officer 1911 just far thicker. The frame and slide are well finished with no sharp edges at all which helps greatly for CC. The trigger is ok not the best but above average.
I bought the gun to replace my keltec p11 which it has as the p11 is just too snappy for fast follow up shots.

The SW 6906/04 platform has an alloy frame and a steel slide (stainless on the 6906, blued on the 6904). I own both and, at least for me, they are the perfect balance of grip length, weight and accuracy for a double stack 9mm. I've got a number of good double stack 9mm's to compare it to (Glock 19, Sig 228, CZ 75 compact and Rami, Beretta 92 compact, SW 5906/04,) and the 6906/04 is my EDC double stack 9mm pistol. It points and shoots well and just seems to hit what I am aiming at with almost no effort on my part. My DA and SA trigger are excellent but I did polish the internals. I find the grip width perfect for my medium large hands (glove size 8). I also have some single stack 9mm's (sw 3914/ 3953 and Sig 239) and most are too thin for my hands.
So the only way to see if it fits you as well as it does me is to get one in your hands. If it fits you will be pleased.

I bought a 6906 not to long ago & I'm very happy
with it. its comparable in size to my M&P40C & in
fact uses the same holsters without a problem. It
can easily be carried if that is your intent & is loads
of fun at the range.

Yep what they say!! I love my 6906! Just had to get use to the DA trigger and the wide trigger it has.. My gun shoots great at 25 yds it's easy to keep 12 rounds under 3".. I'm a 1911 guy but was very use to the short barrel .45 Colt officers model so the 6906 delivered right away.. Darn good gun!! like others have said you won't be sorry you got it.. You will kick yourself if you don't jump on it! Good luck! George

I had two 3913s and two 6906s and I liked the feel of the 69s better and decided to sell the 3913s. I have not been sorry. I think I should have tried a hogue grip on the 3913 since the grip was too thin for me. I like all the 3rd gen pistols and have owned lots of them in the past.

All 6900 series and the earlier 469/669 had steel slickers running on alloy frames. The 4 designated blued steel, 6=stainless steel slides respectively.
They are generally considered more accurate than their biggger brothers like the 5906/5904.
The one I have will hang with my old German SIG P226 all day long accuracy wise. Dale

It is wrong when it comes to the 6906. It has an alloy frame and SS slide. It should be a 6903 according to the wheel.

6903 would be a full length 4 inch barrel - Based on the chart it appears it might or should've been called a 6913 - as it's not a standard 4 inch barrel model but a compact. 69 = 9mm, 1 = Compact, 3 = Alloy frame.

My theory, which I've stated before, is that the 69xx guns were marketed to police agencies as companions to the 59xx guns. Smith decided to keep the model numbers similar to make it simple for police chiefs to figure that out. From what I've seen it's important to keep things simple for police chiefs.
