After looking for quite a while, today at my favorite used gun shop I acquired an excellent condition 6906, late model with round trigger guard, in the box and with both magazines and all papers. Cost was $525 OTD, which isn't a smoking deal, but I seldom see these anymore, so I'm happy.

Another LGS also has a 3913TSW with one mag and nothing else (unless you count the substantial cosmetic wear), and I've been tempted by that one, but maybe this 6906 will cool the fever for a bit.

Cheers,

The metal receiver S&W pistols definitely do not occupy as much real estate in the used pistol section of gun shops today like they did 30 years ago. It is getting harder to find really nice ones and the prices are reflecting their scarcity in the used gun market of the 21st century.

They have become few and far between at gun shops, a few more seem to show up at pawn shops. Even at gun shows it's rare to see more than one or two, if that.

Prices are certainly high for the most part. I've seen 908s listed around $500.00.

I have two 6906’s, one I bought in 2016 and sent to S&W Performance Center for a complete overhaul, and the last one I bought for $350 USD from Gun broker in February. Just added a set of Trijicon night sights and cleaned up the slide with red and gray Scotch Brite Pads. The frame was actually in great condition.
